Here is my fellow mumbaikar, I mat him during one of my rickshaw rides. He came to Mumbai in search of work but didn’t get any opportunities. So he learnt to drive rickshaw and has been driving it since 2005. He does not enjoy it but drives it everyday. He can’t take a leave because he needs to pay rickshaw rental and also support his family back home. He is originally from Allahabad but has been living in Mumbai for last 10 years. He is married and has a kid who are lives at his native place. It will be too expensive for him to live with his family in Mumbai. In spite of this he has no plans of going back as there are not much earning opportunities in his village. He resides here in Mumbai in a small room which he shares with 4 other rickshaw mates.
He loves Mumbai and proudly call himself a Mumbaikar 🙂
